Oversee Search and Rescue

Oversee Search and Rescue is a high-end information system for Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCC), compliant with IAMSAR guidelines and SAR best practice.

Designed in close cooperation with maritime professionals, Oversee Search and Rescue is an award-winning software system, recognised at SAR Europe 2015 with the ‘Best Technical Innovation’ award for the second year running.

“Oversee improves rescue co-ordination staff’s efficiency in responding to SAR incidents. It’s a very intuitive system, and builds and merges the systems already available to Rescue Co-ordination Centres, enabling them to be more efficient and effective in responding to SAR alerts. The system is a huge leap forward in the management of SAR incidents.”

How Oversee can help you

Improve situational awareness
  • Live traffic information is integrated from multiple sources to provide an integrated picture, including GMDSS distress alerts, weather information and resource position and status
  • Dashboards provide the ‘at-a-glance’ status of the coordination centre and of the operational readiness of available resources
  • Alarms and risk algorithms provide early warning of potential distress situations
Improve incident response times
  • Incoming GMDSS alerts result not only in the identification of the vessel that triggered the alert to be displayed, but also their full details and map position
  • Emergency telephone calls are automatically logged and the caller ID captured, with the call location immediately displayed on the map
  • Integrated vessels and contacts databases allow operators to quickly search for and identify a particular vessel or contact and initiate communications immediately
  • Closest available resources with the appropriate capabilities to respond to an incident can be immediately identified and tasked straight from the map, e.g. via a paging system
  • Integrated search planning tools
Improve risk awareness and management
  • Statistical reports help managers identify risk factors and behaviour, to develop preventive strategies
  • Risk algorithms provide an early warning that a vessel may be overdue
  • Alarms can be manually configured to trigger when dangerous conditions and risk behaviours are detected by the system
Optimise costs
  • A “swiss army knife” information system natively performs the function of many different legacy systems in a fully-integrated way, optimising operator performance
  • Statistical reports help managers identify geographic hotspots and seasonal spikes in the occurrence of incidents in order to optimise future staff allocation
  • Greater digitisation of the coordination centre eliminates or greatly reduces the need for paper records
Better co-ordination between centres and on-scene units
  • A single access point for all information, for all centres, for all authorized roles in the organisation
  • Remote, mobile access supported by an intuitive, web-based user interface
  • SITREPs, dashboards, log entries and other records can easily by exported as PDF files or emailed directly
Improve inter-agency cooperation
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and a high-throughput data distribution system facilitate interoperability and information exchange between agencies
Monitor efficiency and effectiveness
  • The business intelligence and reporting module provides interactive dashboards that managers can use to explore data and perform statistical analysis
  • Performance of individual coordination centres and declared resources can be tracked against KPIs to identify areas that need improvement
Tailored to the needs of your organisation
  • The modular set of features can be selected and configured to bespokely suit the particular needs of your organisation

  • Widget-based dashboard provides an overview of the current status of each centre for operators and managers alike
  • Widgets can be configured to display summary information such as ongoing events, current readiness outages, flagged records or important notes
  • Individual widgets can be detached and displayed on different screens (e.g. a video wall)
Geographic Information System / Integrated Maritime Picture
  • Traffic information is integrated and fused from multiple sources (AIS, SAT-AIS, VMS, LRIT, radar)
  • GMDSS distress alerts (COSPAS-SARSAT, DSC) are automatically displayed on the map, and the appropriate vessel immediately identified
  • Cartography base layers are supported in vector or raster format
  • Meteorological and oceanographic overlays display the latest forecasts for wind speed and direction, wave and swell height, direction and period, precipitation or cloud cover
  • User-created objects such as positions, areas and search patterns are fully enabled
  • Generic map tools, for measuring ranges and bearings between objects (rhumb or great circle lines), for plotting routes or calculating intercepts or closest points of approach
  • Search planning tools, such as furthest-on-circles/possibility areas, object drift simulations (Monte Carlo method or IAMSAR), search areas and search patterns
  • Resources displayed with readiness status and contact information can be selected and tasked straight from the map
  • View the past tracks of vessels and their position history on the map
Electronic log
  • Record every communication, action or decision taken at each centre
  • Simultaneously access the full details of vessels, resources or contacts as they are entered into log entries
  • Ultra-fast searching for log entries, by sender, receiver, channel, type of entry, message content and more
Incident management
  • User interface promotes fast but accurate record keeping for subsequent auditing and statistical analysis purposes
  • Incident files auto-populate from log entries and other data entered elsewhere in the system during operations
  • Quickly generate and send SITREPs to keep management and other parties updated on operations
  • Record resources tasked and all timestamps for tasking activities for a given incident
Resource management
  • Track the operational readiness of each resource
  • Record readiness outages and operational time
  • Record activities undertaken by resources
Maritime Safety Information
  • Issue and manage navigational warnings, meteorological warnings and forecasts and other safety related messages
  • Manage and record broadcasts performed by NAVTEX, VHF or other systems
Behaviour analysis
  • Create alarms to be triggered when the specified conditions are met
  • Configure alarm rules based on vessel characteristics, position and behaviour and against weather conditions, maritime boundaries (such as EEZ, SRR or territorial sea), user-defined areas and other parameters
Vessels database
  • Keep detailed information on all known vessels, including identification, characteristics, position history, pictures, incidents, contact information and more
  • Database grows automatically and self-updates using data from traffic sources, e.g. AIS
  • Vessel records can be manually updated
  • Supports integration with additional external databases
Contacts database
  • Manage contact information for people, organisations, companies, vessels, resources or other entities
  • Fully integrated with logging, incident management and geographic information systems
Report tool
  • Summary information and detailed statistics on incidents, taskings, alerts, communications, Maritime Safety Information and other entities in the system
  • Track global, centre and individual unit performance against Key Performance Indicators
  • Generate reports with beautiful charts to inform budgetary and other management decisions, to reply to media queries or to provide evidence for audits or legal proceedings
  • Interactive dashboards let managers play with filters and explore the data
  • Chart data can be exported as Excel spreadsheets or as image files
Audit log
  • Records all creations, deletions and changes to records and other entities in the system
  • ‘Search-as-you-type’ for any record, type of action or user, resulting in an extremely powerful auditing tool
  • Easy to use interface allows non-technical users to easily operate the audit log and understand when, by whom and why records were changed
